'Mommy Makeover' refers to combining certain procedures to help a woman regain features that were impacted by pregnancy. Very often, pregnancy causes unfavorable alterations in the woman's body caused by weight gain and skin stretching. After delivery most women find that some of the body shape changes are not reverisble by diet and exercise. For these women, plastic surgical procedures such as breast augmentation or lift, tummy-tuck, and liposuction may be the only way to repair the impact of pregnancy and weight gain. Some women may need only one of these, others may want combinations of any of the procedures. They can be performed one at a time, but most women prefer to combine them in order to only have one operation and one recovery time. Dr Dowden has been performing these combinations of procedures for more than 30 years, and is highly experienced in combining them safely and effectively. Patients have found the results very gratifying, and our patients are uniformly glad they chose to have them done, whether combined in one operation or in separate procedures. Pregnancy and breast-feeding strongly impacted the breasts as well as the abdomen of this woman from the Cleveland area. She requested breast implants via the navel, and during the same anesthesia, a tummytuck, the so-called Mommy Makeover:
Dr Dowden performed the Mommy Makeover for her, with transumbilical breast augmentation (TUBA) (330 ml right and 325 ml left) and also a full tummytuck with skin tightening as well as cinching the muscles to help narrow her waist and flatten her abdomen to a more youthful contour. This woman from Pennsylvania wanted her breasts only slightly larger, basically she just wanted to regain what she had lost through pregnancy. She also wanted to have her excess hanging abdominal skin removed at the same time, the so-called Mommy Makeover:
Dr Dowden performed the Mommy Makeover for her, ie a tummytuck, and at the same operation placed breast implants - under the muscle 260cc each - through her navel ("TUBA") to avoid other scars. (Note that the term "transabdominal" is incorrect, as there is no entry inside the abdomen at all; the correct term is "transumbilical".) Pregnancy had left this young woman with both reduced breast volume and excess abdominal skin, a situation in which many women find themselves. She requested the so-called Mommy Makeover, a tummytuck at the same time as a breast augmentation. She decided upon a breast size that for her required about 500 ml implants, and wanted them to be placed in front of the muscle for the look she preferred.
Dr Dowden performed the Mommy Makeover procedure for her, using saline implants of 550 ml on her right and 490 ml on her left, at the same time as her tummytuck. Note the small mole just to her left of the navel in the before photo, and then how much lower its new position after the skin was tightened downward. Placing breast implants, either saline or silicone, combines very well with a tummytuck. (46749)
